the problem
It all started with my grandpa and his bookstore. He tracked sales, stock and cash by hand, and when he got paid by QR all he could trust was the screenshot the customer showed him. So I built him a system.
I coded it by hand, over two months, and got to roughly half of the web app: it worked for him, but it wasn't ready for other businesses.
what I built
Today Máximo is a complete sales system, on a computer and on a phone:
- Point of sale to check out in seconds.
- Inventory per warehouse, updated with every sale.
- Barcodes read by the phone's camera.
- Cash register per shift with a closing count.
- Multiple branches and users with permissions.
- QR payments integrated with Banco Económico: a sale is only recorded once the bank confirms the payment. No fake screenshots.
The name comes from Máximo, my dog, the same one spinning on this site's home page. Máximo is part of Alydel.
how it works
The leap came when I stopped coding alone and started orchestrating a team of AI agents, each with its own role:
- Product manager agent: decides what to build and in what order.
- Developer agent: writes the web and backend code.
- DevOps agent: deployments, servers and the database.
- Mobile app agent: builds the app and handles everything for Google Play and the App Store.
- Web developer agent: built the landing page, maximo.work.
All my agents run on Claude, but I'm the one driving the project: as a developer, with my own judgment, I decide the architecture, review every change and define what a real business needs, what looks right and what's ready to ship. The agents multiply my work; the direction is mine.
The web app is Next.js, the backend NestJS with PostgreSQL and Prisma. Since the web used shadcn/ui components, I asked Claude to build the Flutter app with those same components, with a few tweaks for mobile. That way the app and the web feel like one product.
how it went
What took me two months by hand to get halfway, I finished with my agents in one week. And I built the mobile app in a single afternoon.
I got the Banco Económico integration working for QR payments, and today Máximo serves more and more businesses across Bolivia: coffee shops, restaurants, hardware stores and shops that sell and get paid with it every day.
what I learned
AI didn't replace my work: it multiplied it. Code is no longer the bottleneck; what makes the difference is knowing what to build, splitting the work into clear roles and reviewing what each agent does with good judgment.
